Edelweiss Winter
The snow is gently falling this morning on the first day of Spring, sticking to the road in a white blanket and creating a white shroud that seems to wrap the house. Only a few days ago it really did feel like spring was here, the chickadees singing their warmer weather song, our tulips poking tentatively through the earth. This is spring time in the mountains.
I named this blog Edelweiss Winter. With Sam's introduction, I found myself singing to him in the early hours as I rocked him back to sleep, resurrecting songs from my own childhood, trying to remember all of the long ago words. Edelweiss from The Sound of Music is a song that my mother would sing to me while I nestled in her arms. And it is one that often comes to my lips as I look down at Sam, as if it is embedded in my blood. Winter! When this little man came into our lives and totally rocked it. Seemed like the two, Edelweiss and Winter, worked together and exemplified this immense change that Jamie and I are going through. Within the coldness of winter comes new growth, similar to that of a flower. White the color that exemplifies purity, innocence, newness, a canvas to be painted upon....Sam in essence.
